Requirements for a Haralson County Marriage License

Georgia law sets the rules for marriage licenses statewide. Both people must appear at the Probate Court together. Each person needs a valid photo ID. You must be at least 18 to apply.

  • Valid driver's license or state-issued photo ID
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Military ID

If you have been married before, you need a certified copy of your final divorce decree, annulment, or a death certificate for your former spouse. The court won't process a new license until they see that proof. Social Security numbers are required on the application but you don't need to have the physical card with you.

There is no blood test. Georgia got rid of that years ago. There is also no waiting period. Once the Haralson County Probate Court hands you the license, you can get married that same day if you want. The license does not expire under Georgia law, though you should have the ceremony and return the signed license within a reasonable time.

You can fill out the application online before your visit. Go to georgiaprobaterecords.com and complete the form. Print it and bring it to the courthouse. This speeds things up at the window.

Haralson County Marriage License Fees

The fee for a standard marriage license in Haralson County is $56. If you completed a qualifying premarital education course, the fee drops to $16. That is a big savings. The course must last at least six hours and be done within 12 months before your application.

Bring the premarital education certificate when you apply. Without it, you pay the full $56. Fees are non-refundable. Check with the court about what forms of payment they take. Smaller courts sometimes prefer cash or money orders over cards.

One certified copy of the marriage certificate is included in the fee. You get it after the signed license is returned and recorded. Additional copies cost about $10 each. Order extras if you need them for insurance, bank accounts, or name change paperwork.

After the Wedding Ceremony

The officiant must sign the license after the ceremony. Then the signed license needs to come back to the Haralson County Probate Court within 30 days. Georgia law requires this. Late returns can create issues with your official marriage record.

Send the signed license to: Haralson County Probate Court, P.O. Box 489, Buchanan, GA 30113. You can also hand-deliver it. After the court records the marriage, they will mail your certified marriage certificate. Allow two to four weeks for processing.

If more than 45 days pass and you still don't have your certificate, call the court at (770) 646-2005. They can check the status and let you know if anything is missing. It is a good idea to keep a copy of the signed license before mailing it, just in case.
