Floyd County Marriage License Requirements

Both people must appear together at the Probate Court. Each applicant needs a valid photo ID. Driver's licenses, state-issued IDs, passports, and military IDs are all accepted. Proof of age is also required if your ID does not show a date of birth.

If either person was previously married, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment, or death certificate from the most recent marriage. Without this documentation, the court cannot issue a new license.

Georgia has no blood test requirement. The state eliminated that in 2003. There is no waiting period. The license is issued the same day you apply. It does not expire. Georgia residents can apply in any county. Non-residents must get the license in the county where the ceremony will take place.

Applicants must be at least 18. A 17-year-old can apply only with proof of emancipation. Their partner cannot be more than four years older. Both must have completed premarital education in that case. No one under 17 can get a marriage license in Georgia.

Marriage License Fees

The standard fee in Floyd County is $56. With a valid premarital education certificate, the fee drops to $16. The program must be at least six hours and taken within 12 months of the application. Both applicants attend together. A licensed professional or clergy member provides the instruction.

Bring the certificate to the Probate Court when you apply. The discount cannot be applied after you have paid the full amount. All fees are non-refundable.

Certified copies of marriage certificates are $10 each. Get them from the Floyd County Probate Court by visiting in person or sending a written request by mail. The Georgia Department of Public Health keeps state-level marriage records from June 1952 to August 1996. For records outside that range, the county Probate Court is the source.

After the Wedding

The officiant signs the marriage license after your ceremony. Return the signed license to the Floyd County Probate Court within 30 days. You can mail it or drop it off in person. The court will record the license and mail your marriage certificate. Allow up to 30 days for processing and delivery.
