Where to Get a Roswell Marriage License

Roswell residents apply at the Fulton County Probate Court. The nearest location is the North Service Center in Sandy Springs, a short drive south of Roswell on Roswell Road. There is no probate court office within Roswell city limits, but the Sandy Springs location is easy to reach.

Walk-ins only. No appointments are taken. The location is cashless, so credit or debit cards are the only way to pay. A 4.5% convenience fee is added to card payments. American Express is not accepted.

Roswell residents can also use the main downtown Atlanta office at 136 Pryor Street SW, Suite C-230, or the South Service Center at 5600 Stonewall Tell Road in College Park. All three offices handle the same Fulton County marriage license application.

Roswell Marriage License Requirements

Both people must appear in person at the Fulton County Probate Court. No proxies or representatives allowed. Each person needs to be 18 or older. A 17-year-old may apply only with proof of legal emancipation.

You will need a valid form of photo ID:

  • State-issued driver's license or ID card
  • Certified birth certificate (original, with English translation if foreign)
  • Valid U.S. or foreign passport
  • Military ID

Anyone who was previously married must bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment, or death certificate of the prior spouse. The court will not move forward without this. No blood tests are needed. Georgia removed that requirement in 2003.

You can fill out the online marriage license application ahead of time through the Georgia Probate Records portal. Print it and bring it along to reduce your wait. The in-person visit is still required even after filling out the form online.

Marriage License Fees for Roswell Residents

The Fulton County Probate Court charges $68.50 for a standard marriage license. This applies to all Fulton County residents, including those in Roswell. One certified copy of the marriage certificate is included and arrives by mail after recording.

Couples who complete a premarital education program pay $28.50. The course must last at least six hours and be completed within 12 months of your application. A licensed counselor, therapist, or clergy member must lead the course. Bring the certificate of completion to the North Service Center. This saves $40.

Additional certified copies of the marriage certificate are $10 each. All fees are non-refundable. Keep in mind the cashless policy at the North Service Center. Have your card ready.

After Your Roswell Wedding

Your officiant signs the marriage license after the ceremony. Return the signed license to the Fulton County Probate Court within 30 days. Mail it to: Fulton County Probate Court, Attn: License Division, 136 SW Pryor Street, 2nd Floor C230, Atlanta, GA 30303. You may also drop it off at any of the three Fulton County locations.

Recording takes up to 30 days. The certified marriage certificate will arrive by mail once recording is complete. If 45 days pass and you still have not received it, email Probate.Licenses@fultoncountyga.gov. For name changes, bring the certified certificate to the Social Security Administration and Georgia Department of Driver Services.
