Marriage licenses in Milton are issued through the Fulton County Probate Court. Milton does not have its own marriage license office. The city sits in the northern part of Fulton County with a population of about 41,500. Milton residents can use the Fulton North Service Center in Sandy Springs, which is closer than the main courthouse in downtown Atlanta. Both applicants must appear together to apply. The North Service Center is cashless. Bring a credit or debit card for payment. No American Express. The main downtown office accepts cash and cards. Milton residents should pick whichever location is more convenient for them.
Milton Marriage License Requirements
Both people must show up in person. Each applicant needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID card, passport, or military ID will work. You also need your Social Security number.
If either person has been married before, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment order, or death certificate. The court must see this before issuing a new license. Georgia has not required a blood test since 2003. There is no waiting period. The license is valid on the day it is issued and does not expire.
You must be at least 18 years old. A 17-year-old can apply only with proof of legal emancipation. No one under 17 can get a marriage license in Georgia. If you filled out the online application through the Georgia Probate Records portal, print it and bring it with you to your visit.
Marriage License Fees for Milton
Fulton County charges $68.50 for a standard marriage license. This is higher than most Georgia counties. Couples who complete premarital education pay $28.50 instead. The discount is $40, which is the same as other counties even though the base fee is different.
The premarital course must be at least six hours. A licensed counselor, therapist, or clergy member must lead it. It has to be done within 12 months of your application date. Bring the signed certificate of completion when you apply.
All fees are non-refundable. Certified copies of the marriage certificate cost $10 each. A 4.5% convenience fee applies to credit and debit card payments. No American Express at any Fulton County location. The downtown office takes cash. The North Service Center does not.

After Your Milton Wedding
Your officiant signs the marriage license after the ceremony. Return the signed license to the Fulton County Probate Court within 30 days. Mail it to 136 Pryor Street SW, 2nd Floor C230, Atlanta, GA 30303 or bring it in person. The court records it and sends a certified marriage certificate by mail.
Allow up to 30 days for recording. If you have not received your certificate after 45 days, email Probate.Licenses@fultoncountyga.gov or call the court. Keep a copy of the signed license while you wait for the official certificate.
