Atlanta marriage licenses are issued by the Fulton County Probate Court. The City of Atlanta does not issue marriage licenses. All Atlanta residents must apply at one of the three Fulton County Probate Court locations. The main office is in downtown Atlanta on Pryor Street, just blocks from City Hall. With a population over 520,000, Atlanta is the largest city in Georgia and the county seat of Fulton County. The Fulton County Probate Court handles all marriage license applications, searches, and certified copies for Atlanta residents.

Where to Get a Marriage License in Atlanta
Atlanta residents apply for a marriage license at the Fulton County Probate Court. The main office is at 136 Pryor Street SW, Suite C-230, in downtown Atlanta. This location is the closest for most Atlanta residents. It accepts both appointments and walk-ins during regular business hours.

Atlanta residents can also use the North Service Center at 7741 Roswell Road, Suite 219, in Sandy Springs, or the South Service Center at 5600 Stonewall Tell Road, Suite 218, in College Park. Both operate on a walk-in basis from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The service centers are cashless. Bring a credit or debit card if you go to a service center for your Atlanta marriage license.
Note: Applicants are admitted based on appointment time and arrival order at the downtown Atlanta office.
Atlanta Marriage License Requirements
Both people must show up in person at the Fulton County Probate Court to get a marriage license in Atlanta. You must be at least 18 years old, of sound mind, and have no living spouse from a prior undissolved marriage. A 17-year-old may apply only with proof of legal emancipation.
Bring one of the following to the Fulton County Probate Court:
- Valid state-issued driver's license or ID
- Original or certified birth certificate (translated in English if needed)
- Valid passport
- Valid military ID
If you were married before, bring a certified copy of your final divorce decree, annulment, or death certificate. The court must see this before they will issue a new marriage license in Atlanta. If you filled out an online application through the Georgia Probate Records portal, print it and bring it with you. Blood tests have not been required in Georgia since July 1, 2003.
Georgia residents can apply for a marriage license at any county probate court in the state, not just Fulton County. If neither person lives in Georgia, you must get the license in the county where the ceremony takes place. The marriage license issued in Fulton County does not expire.
Marriage License Fees in Atlanta
The Fulton County Probate Court charges $68.50 for a standard marriage license. This is higher than most Georgia counties. The fee includes one certified copy of the marriage certificate mailed after recording. All fees are non-refundable.
Couples who complete a qualifying premarital education program pay only $28.50 for a marriage license at the Fulton County Probate Court. The program must be at least six hours and completed within 12 months of the application. You must have the certificate of completion in hand when you apply. A licensed counselor, therapist, or member of the clergy must lead the program. This can save Atlanta couples $40 on their marriage license fee.
Certified copies of a marriage license cost $10 each. Send your request to the Records Division at 136 Pryor Street SW, 2nd Floor C230, Atlanta, GA 30303. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope and money order. The downtown office takes cash and credit cards. A 4.5% convenience fee applies to card payments. No American Express accepted at any location.
After Your Atlanta Wedding
The officiant signs the marriage license after the ceremony. Return the signed license to the Fulton County Probate Court within 30 days. Mail it to: Fulton County Probate Court, Attn: License Division, 136 SW Pryor Street, 2nd Floor C230, Atlanta, GA 30303. Recording takes up to 30 days. Your marriage certificate will come by mail.
If 45 days pass and you have not received your marriage certificate, contact Probate.Licenses@fultoncountyga.gov. If you plan to hyphenate your name, keep both the marriage certificate and the application. Changes to the certificate must go through the Fulton County Probate Court.
