Where to Get an Alpharetta Marriage License

Alpharetta residents apply at the Fulton County Probate Court. The North Service Center in Sandy Springs is the nearest office. There is no probate court location within Alpharetta city limits. The drive south on GA-400 to the Sandy Springs office takes about 15 minutes in normal traffic.

You can also use the main downtown Atlanta office at 136 Pryor Street SW or the South Service Center in College Park. Both handle the same Fulton County marriage license. The downtown office takes cash and offers appointments.

Alpharetta Marriage License Requirements

Both people must appear together at any Fulton County Probate Court location. No exceptions. You must be at least 18. A 17-year-old needs proof of legal emancipation to apply.

Bring a valid form of photo ID:

  • State-issued driver's license or ID card
  • Original or certified birth certificate (English translation needed if foreign)
  • Valid passport
  • Military ID card

Anyone who was previously married must bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment order, or death certificate. The court will not process the license without this proof. Georgia stopped requiring blood tests in 2003.

You can fill out the online marriage license application before your visit. Print it and bring it along. This helps speed up your time at the counter, but both people must still appear in person at the office.

Marriage License Fees in Alpharetta

A standard marriage license through the Fulton County Probate Court is $68.50. One certified copy of the marriage certificate is included. It arrives by mail after the court records the marriage. All fees are final and non-refundable.

Couples who complete premarital education pay $28.50 instead. The course must be at least six hours long, completed within 12 months of the application, and led by a licensed professional or clergy member. Bring the certificate of completion. This saves $40 on the license fee for Alpharetta couples.

Additional certified copies are $10 each. Since the North Service Center is cashless, make sure you have a card. The 4.5% convenience fee applies on top of the license cost.

After Your Alpharetta Wedding

Your officiant signs the marriage license after the ceremony. Return the signed license to any Fulton County Probate Court location within 30 days. Mail it to: Fulton County Probate Court, Attn: License Division, 136 SW Pryor Street, 2nd Floor C230, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Recording takes up to 30 days. The certified marriage certificate comes by mail. If 45 days pass and you have not received it, email Probate.Licenses@fultoncountyga.gov. You will need the certified certificate to change your name at the Social Security office and Georgia DDS.

Courthouse Ceremonies for Alpharetta Couples

The Fulton County Probate Court offers Forever Fridays courthouse weddings at the downtown Atlanta location on Pryor Street. These are not available at the North Service Center. If you want a courthouse ceremony, you would need to go to the downtown office. You must already have your Fulton County marriage license before the ceremony.
