What You Need in Muscogee County

Both people must come to the courthouse. No exceptions. Each person needs valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID all work. If either person was married before, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree. If your former spouse passed away, bring the death certificate.

Both applicants must be over 18. A 17-year-old can apply only with proof of legal emancipation and at least six hours of premarital counseling from a licensed counselor. Nobody under 17 gets a license in Georgia.

There is no blood test requirement. Georgia ended that in 2003. There is no waiting period. The license is issued the same day you apply if everything checks out. The Muscogee County marriage license does not expire.

Muscogee Marriage License Fees

A standard marriage license costs $56. With a premarital education certificate, the fee is $16. The education must be at least six hours, done within the past 12 months, and both people must take it together. Bring the certificate to the office. Without it, you pay the full amount.

Payment options are limited. The court takes cash, money orders, and credit or debit cards. Cards have a 3% service fee. No American Express. No personal checks. No Apple Pay or Google Pay. Those tap-to-pay methods are not accepted at this office.

Certified copies cost $10 each. You can get them at the Probate Court in person. If you were divorced in Muscogee County, divorce records are available on the second floor of the Government Center.

Courthouse Weddings in Muscogee County

The Muscogee County Probate Court performs wedding ceremonies on a set schedule. Ceremonies are held Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and Friday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. No ceremonies on Tuesday or Thursday.

You must already have your marriage license before the ceremony. The license and the wedding are separate steps. The 3:00 PM cutoff is firm, so arrive on time. This is one of the more accessible courthouse wedding options in Georgia because Muscogee County has multiple ceremony windows each week.

Columbus also has many officiants, ministers, and judges who can perform weddings outside the courthouse. Anyone authorized under Georgia law can sign your license after the ceremony.

Muscogee County Marriage License Online

You can fill out the application online before you visit. Go to the Georgia Probate Records portal and complete the form. You will get an order number. Doing the online part ahead of time can speed up your visit. But it is not required. You can also do the whole thing at the office. Either way, both people have to be there with ID and payment.
