Marriage License Requirements

Both people must show up at the Probate Court together. No proxy applications are allowed. Each applicant needs a valid photo ID. A driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID all work.

If either person was married before, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment order, or death certificate. The court will not issue a license without proof that the prior marriage is over.

Georgia ended its blood test requirement in 2003. There is no waiting period. The license is issued the same day you apply. It does not expire. Georgia residents can apply in any county. Non-residents must apply in the county where the ceremony will take place.

The minimum age is 18. A 17-year-old may apply only with emancipation documentation and a premarital education certificate. The partner cannot be more than four years older. No person under 17 can get a marriage license in Georgia. This rule took effect July 1, 2019.
