Arrive at least 45 minutes before the office closes. Processing a marriage license at the counter takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Parking in downtown Marietta can be tight, so give yourself extra time. The court building is a short walk from the Marietta Square area.

Kennesaw Marriage License Requirements

Both applicants must appear at the Cobb County Probate Court together. No proxy applications are allowed. You must be at least 18. A 17-year-old can apply with proof of legal emancipation. Georgia does not allow anyone under 17 to marry.

Each person needs one valid form of identification:

  • State-issued driver's license or ID card
  • Original or certified birth certificate (English translation if applicable)
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Military ID

Were you married before? Bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment order, or death certificate. The Cobb County Probate Court requires this before issuing a new license. No blood test is needed. Georgia eliminated that requirement on July 1, 2003.

You can apply at any county probate court in Georgia if at least one person is a Georgia resident. Non-residents must apply in the county where the wedding will take place. There is no waiting period in Cobb County. The license is valid right away and does not expire.

Marriage License Fees for Kennesaw Couples

The Cobb County Probate Court charges $56 for a marriage license. One certified copy of the marriage certificate is included. It will be mailed after the license is recorded. The $56 fee is right in line with the average across Georgia counties.

A premarital education discount brings the fee down to $16. The course must be at least six hours long and completed within 12 months of the application date. A licensed counselor, therapist, or clergy member has to lead it. Bring the completion certificate when you apply at the Cobb County Probate Court. That saves you $40.

Additional certified copies are $10 each. Request them when you apply or contact the court later. Cash and cards are accepted. Ask about any processing fees on card payments when you visit.

After Your Kennesaw Wedding

The officiant signs the license after the ceremony. Return the signed license to the Cobb County Probate Court within 30 days. Mail it to 32 Waddell Street SE, Marietta, GA 30090, or bring it in person.

Recording takes up to 30 days. Your certified marriage certificate will come by mail. If you have not received it after 45 days, contact the Cobb County Probate Court at (770) 528-1931. Keep your own copy of the signed license until the certified version arrives. Name changes require the marriage certificate plus a visit to the Social Security office and Georgia DDS.
